New Monolithic.com website

Welcome to the new monolithic.com website. It’s still early. There is a lot to do, but it’s a start.

Monolithic Constructors, Inc. — or just, Monolithic — began in 1980 as the first Monolithic Dome construction company.

In 1996, Monolithic Constructors, Inc. (Monolithic) launched the Monolithic Dome Institute (MDI). It’s purpose is to teach and train the world about the Monolithic Dome. For 22 years we ran a single website that was probably 90 percent MDI and 10 percent Monolithic. This mix of non-commercial and commercial content worked okay, but not perfectly — it hid the actual products and services offered by Monolithic.

A few years ago we migrated the main website to monolithic.org. There are thousands of articles, stories, photographs of the Monolithic Dome and is the repository for all things dome related.

In 1996, our first website went online at Monolithicdome.com. In the late 1990s, we created Monolithic.com. At the time, Monolithic was a construction company with a mandate to teach and train people about the benefits of the Monolithic Dome and how to build them. It was an organization envisioned and driven by David B. South who naturally folded his educational efforts with his commercial ambitions.

In the latter part of the first decade of the 2000s, we began focusing our efforts on the third iteration of our website to accommodate his vision better and published it to Monolithic.org. We have never been fully satisfied with the results. It became increasingly clear to Mr. South that the site’s focus was fractured and that we needed to separate our commercial work from our educational efforts.

As of January 2020, the Monolithic Dome Institute became its own entity, operating separately from Monolithic Constructors and our Airform and equipment manufacturing. We have created two new websites—located at our original URLs—Monolithic.com and MonolithicDome.com.

• Monolithic.com is the website for Monolithic Constructors, inc., Monolithic Dome Airform and Equipment Manufacturing, and all our commercial endeavors.
• MonolithicDome.com is the Monolithic Dome Institute’s website. You will find a growing “encyclopedia of domes” and resources for Monolithic Dome builders, architects and designers, do-it-yourselfers and enthusiasts.

We will be leaving Monolithic.org in place as we migrate the content to our two new websites. We expect this process to be a long and careful one.
